Two wonderful special needs dogs from two different litters. Both from backyard breeders. Now suffering because they were improperly bred. They don't deserve this, nor does any dog. But these two were lucky enough to fall in the hands of our rescue and therefore we want to do everything we can to make their lives happy and healthy. We need your donations to do that.

This is Digby. He is 9 weeks old and 1 lb.

He was born the runt in a litter of 4 and could never walk from the beginning. He has cerebellar hypoplasia, a brain disorder. He may be able to be helped by medication but he needs an MRI to determine that. Right now he is too young and too small to have the procedure done so we have time to raise the funds. Digby loves life and has a strong will to live. He wants to run and play like a normal puppy but he can't. You will see in his videos that he falls down and can only walk with assistance. We hope and pray that he can be helped but an MRI is the only way to find out and we desperately need your donations to help.

This is Peanut. He is 2 years old and 5 lbs.

Peanut has a cleft nose or split nose, whichever you prefer to call it.  He came from a hoarding situation where all the dogs were inbreeding. He has most likely been this way since birth. He has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, another brain disorder. You will see in Peanuts video that he averts direct eye contact. His eye focus is always down. Peanut is not as bad off as our little Digby but in order to tell if there is fluid pressing on his brain he also needs an MRI. If a dog of Peanuts condition has an open fontanel then an ultrasound can be done instead. Unfortunately for Peanut he does not have an open fontanel. The Vet at the VCA hospital in Sacramento was kind enough to say they would push for a two for one MRI if we did them both at the same time. Unfortunately this means Peanut has to wait until Digby is ready but that is OK as it will save us a lot of money.

As you can see your donations are going to great use and these little dogs desperately need help. They need whatever care that we can give them so they can live happy and healthy lives.

This is a very fun donation drive. Not only do we get to see pictures of your furry family, you also have a chance to win some great prizes. If you win, we win. And if you donate that's even better because these two sweet boys need our help and you can be a part of it. There isn't a lot of time for this program so please don't delay. Tell, your friends, your family, everyone you know who loves Chihuahua's as much as we do. We have been able to do amazing things here at Chihuahua Rescue and Rehab and it's because of all the people out there, just like you, who lend a helping hand. So let's do it again and DONATE for Digby and Peanut's MRI.

Thank you from two little boys who deserve so much more.

To enter:

Simply pick a square with a paw print, make your donation of $10 or more and upload your absolute most awesome photo of your dog or cat. It could funny, cute, sweet or flat-out beautiful. Memes are great too! A summery theme might help, but it's definitely not required. If you want to leave a message, who knows, it could help?

We apologize to all the other animals out there. They're wonderful and can be funny, cute, etc. too, but in this case it's only raining cats and dogs…

If you don't have a dog or a cat or just don't want to play, you can still help by making a donation. You can upload any photo you like or we can upload one for you.

How it works:

The Dog Days of Summer Challenge ends at midnight on August 11th.

Afterwards, we'll pick our favorite of all the dog and cat photos on this GivingGrid and send it on to GivingGrid.com. All the other participating animal organizations will do the same. The folks at GivingGrid will pick their 10 favorites and send them off to 1-800-Pet-Meds, who will then pick the grand prize winner, runner-up and third place. All 10 finalists will win stuff! We'll send you an email if you're our pick!

Here's the fun part. The animal organizations that submitted the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winning photos will win too! For us to qualify, we must have at least 20 squares taken and a minimum of $500 in total donations. Easy peasy right, but please help us make sure we get there! We want to win too!
