Her Story is Heartbreaking

Urgent help needed for Bella!

We received a plea for help from a family who has been trying for months to save their beloved 14-year-old dog, Bella.

What started as a small growth has now turned into a cancerous mass that has consumed her eye, destroying everything in its path. We understand how disturbing these photos are; it is difficult to look at her and not feel the pain.

When her family contacted us, they were out of options. They had gone to vet after vet, begging for help, but every hospital turned them away when they couldn't come up with $10,000 for surgery.

We couldn't walk away. Bella needs us. Please help us provide her with the critical surgery she needs.

Campaign Details

Right now, people across the country are struggling to put food on the table.

Bella‘s family simply did not have the funds, but they would have done everything they could if they did. They love her.

If things couldn’t get worse, she also suffers from a collapsing trachea, which complicates anesthesia and requires a specialist surgeon.

We took Bella under our wing and we immediately sent her to a hospital for pain and infection management. Then she was evaluated by a specialty hospital.

The estimated cost of surgery and post-operative care is over $10,000, and Bella urgently needs our help to make that possible. The specialty surgeon agrees that if she has the surgery, she will likely survive and be able to live out the rest of her life comfortably.

We can’t walk away. We know that Bella needs this, and Bella deserves an opportunity to live pain-free and in the loving care of her owners. Please consider donating today to help us end Bella’s suffering and give her the chance she deserves to live her remaining years free from pain.

NYC Second Chance Rescue

About the Organization

In 2009, NYC Second Chance Rescue began as a small dream, founded on the firm belief that all animals deserve love and care, and that no animal should ever be subjected to abuse, neglect or homelessness. All proceeds go directly to the animals, and to date, we have relied solely on donations from loyal supporters. Our mission is to offer a second chance to those animals less fortunate — those with critical medical, emotional or behavioral issues.

We’re relieved and grateful to share that Bella has made it through surgery. Despite her complicated medical condition and the additional risks posed by her collapsing trachea, she handled anesthesia remarkably well. Bella’s eye and surrounding non viable tissue was removed and the wound was closed.

Bella’s case was not only medically complex but also emotionally profound. Her family had exhausted every possible option before reaching out for help. They went from hospital to hospital, desperate to save their beloved 14-year-old dog, but were turned away because they couldn’t afford the $10,000 cost of surgery.

The truth is, our economy is weighing heavily on families everywhere. Across the country, people are struggling to afford basic necessities such as food, housing, and healthcare for themselves, let alone for their pets. Bella’s family loved her deeply and would have done anything in their power to save her if they had the means. They simply needed help.

That’s where our community stepped in. Because of your generosity, Bella’s pain is gone, and she now has the chance to live out her golden years surrounded by the family that cherishes her.

We are immensely grateful to the surgeons who took her case, to every donor who gave what they could, and to everyone who continues to support our Keeping Families Together initiative, a lifeline for families who refuse to give up on the pets they love.

Your kindness restores more than health; it restores hope.

    Love,
    NYC Second Chance Rescue

Sweet little Bella is now at the hospital and the doctors and nurses are preparing her for surgery. Today is the day and we are praying with everything in us that she pulls through this nightmare.

Her devoted family is at the hospital waiting anxiously. If you could see the tears in their eyes, the way they whisper to her, the way they hold onto hope, you would understand just how deeply this little dog is loved.

We want to thank our incredible community for rallying around Bella and helping us raise a lot the critical funds needed to give her a fighting chance. We still have a ways to go to cover her full medical expenses which are over $10,000.

Please continue to share her story and keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she heads into surgery.

Together, we can help her make it through.

    Love,
    NYC Second Chance Rescue
