Intentionally Inflicted Fractures!

Urgent help needed for Memphis!

We see outright neglect every single day that results in harm, illness and injury to innocent victims and saddens us with each case we see and each story we hear. But "intentional infliction" of injuries should outrage every single one of us! In this case, the victim is a defenseless puppy, that was injured and dumped. A baby! The senselessness and cold-heartedness is stunning.

The emergency vet feels that this was not a car accident, given no external scrapes or scratches and appears to be more like a few hard kicks or blows.

Please help little Memphis get better and walk again. This is no way to start a life…

So far, they found both rear legs have fractures! We’re not sure yet what else there might be… Hopefully nothing.

Please help us if you can and also share his story! He deserves the best from here on out!

    Pupdate on this little guy!

Memphis goes in tomorrow for his first bandage change, and to teach his caregivers about the physical therapy they will be doing with him.

The red bandage you see covers the external pins placed during the surgery. The incision is healing well, but he's not putting weight on that limb yet and the surgeons want him to do a little walking on that limb ASAP. They'll assess his pain level to see if that helps him start using the leg.

We are so grateful for all the donations that made this possible!!

    With love,
    Cody's

Baby Memphis is home. Thank you Julie for getting him to surgery and keeping him overnight. Memphis got to visit his finder, Jamie, too. He had lots of kisses to give out.

24 hours post surgery and he’s acting like a puppy should. Sweet baby has weeks with pins in his leg and physical therapy. He’s one tough puppy.

Cody’s is so lucky to have all of you and such wonderful volunteers who get the job done!

Despite the ice storm in Dallas, the specialty surgeons were working and met Memphis today. His foster mom lives a little outside of the Dallas metroplex, so we brought him closer in yesterday afternoon to make sure we were all there for the appointment.

The surgeons consulted this morning and took additional X-rays, and say that because Memphis is so young, there's a 50/50 chance they can repair the right leg and save it, and the decision was made to go forward. The surgeons felt that an amputation at this age would best be avoided, so even if that's the eventual outcome, that should be postponed. The concern is whether they can get the bones back into the right position(s) and whether the bones are strong enough/hard enough to hold the repairs, and maintain them with the future growth. But overall, definitely worth trying to do the repairs. They will be doing the surgery today.

On the bright side, they were happy with how the left leg is beginning to heal on it's own and how he's already started using it, and they feel we should give that leg more time before surgical intervention, if that should be needed down the road.

Memphis did not look like he enjoyed getting pulled out of his warm bed and not even getting any breakfast before his visit! ♥

Thank you all again for your caring and help. This is going to be a lot more expensive that we anticipated, but he's worth it! I mean look at that face!

    Warm regards,

Thank you so much for caring and rallying for puppy Memphis! Here's our little guy at his wonderful foster.

Memphis doesn't have an single scratch or scrape on his body, but one back leg is fractured and the other back leg has THREE fractures.

This is beyond the scope for our surgeons because of the complexity and involvement of the growth plate, and he has an appointment on Thursday at the Veterinary Surgical Center in Plano for an assessment and estimate. Preliminary estimate based on the X-rays is over $7,000, unless they opt for amputation, which we hope won't be necessary...

However, due to his age, a puppy's rate of growth, and involvement of the growth plate, time is of the essence and they will likely do whatever surgery is required on Thursday or shortly thereafter.

Please think positive thoughts for this sweetheart baby boy.

    Warm regards,
    Cody's
