It is such a sweet gesture to care for an animal that is not your own. And the people who care for community cats are true heroes for the animals! Stray cats typically travel in groups, also called colonies, and every female in the colony can produce 2 litters of kittens each year. That adds up to A LOT of homeless cats and kittens in a hurry, and a lot of money to get them all spayed or neutered. The goal of the "Spring" for a Spay fundraiser is to provide assistance to the wonderful caretakers who have taken on the responsibility of caring for these homeless cats.
Our Community Cat program can reduce, and sometimes even cover, the cost of the surgeries needed to sterilize an entire colony of community cats. The largest colony we have helped here at H.O.P.E. for Animals was a total of 90 cats. Can you imagine?! Those felines made their homes at a very large farm, and the previous owners never spayed or neutered them. When the new owner moved in, we helped to trap and spay/neuter all of the cats in that colony. This extremely large colony is not common, but it is very normal to see 10-15 cats at one location.
Each stray cat that comes into H.O.P.E. receives its spay/neuter surgery, microchip, rabies vaccine, and an ear-tip for visual identification. The cost of this package is just $35 per cat. We also lend out traps at our facility, and even offer trapping assistance for caretakers with larger colonies.
You can help save lives today by donating to our Community Cat program!
We thank you for "Springing" for a Spay!
