Baby Bug Needs Lifesaving Surgery

Urgent help needed for Bug!

Tiny Bug couldn't eat and tests revealed he has PRAA (Persistent Right Aortic Arch) - an embryonic branch of the aorta failed to regress and wrapped itself around a portion of the esophagus, choking off his ability to pass food into his stomach. He is scheduled for expensive life saving surgery from a specialist and will need several weeks of aftercare. Without this surgery he would fail to thrive and could die.

Please help us save his life!

Campaign Details

Last week we received a plea from an Alabama shelter begging for help with a tiny 4 pound puppy named Bug. They believed Bug suffered from megaesophagus (mega-e) as he was vomiting and have trouble keeping food down.

They had no way to care for him at the shelter, so he needed immediate rescue or he would have been euthanized.

We could not let this 8 week old puppy die, so we had him transferred to our Georgia vet for further diagnostics. Chest x-rays confirmed that Bug does indeed suffer from mega-e, but it was caused by PRAA-(Persistent right aortic arch) a congenital abnormality of the blood vessels of the heart that can affect esophageal function. Basically, an embryonic branch of the aorta fails to regress and is wrapped around the esophagus when a puppy is born. This puts pressure on the tube, preventing the passage of food in the esophagus when the pet eats, causing regurgitation. Surgery can correct the problem, and follow-up care can usually reverse the esophageal effects, especially if done early in a pet’s life.

This was not the news we were hoping for because the only way we can save Bug's precious life is an expensive and invasive surgery. But we committed to this adorable puppy and we are not going to let him down. This surgery will give him a chance to live a long and happy life, so he will have the surgery. Bug's surgery is scheduled for Tuesday in Atlanta.

Please donate and share to help us save this little guy's life.
