Archer came to us as a preemie from a GA shelter who knows how we feel about blues. He was underweight and taken from his mom and siblings far too early. We don't know his story prior to arrival, but we know it wasn't good.

While Archer was with his GA foster she noticed some quirks and deficits in his behavior. Our vet noted them and said he could outgrow a lot of it but he is a special puppy for sure. We waited to update everyone on Archer because we wanted to see what Laurie (his NJ foster) saw and thought. She was in immediate agreement that Archer is a special little guy. After extensive testing it has been determined that Archer is 100% deaf. He cannot hear any sounds at any pitch or tone.

You can imagine our heartache when we heard the news. We know what pitbulls are up against when they are 100% healthy. It's very bittersweet to watch Archer, he has no idea what many people think of him or how they will fear him as he grows. He shows up with a wide open heart and is willing to be anyone's friend. His heart and intentions are pure, it breaks our hearts to watch him in action as people judge him. It's very difficult to watch a dog who is so full of love but has already been labeled a monster by society.

Folks-Archer is not adoptable in his current state. Since he can't hear himself, he thinks nothing of barking for hours on end, in fact, he thinks it's fun. He cannot be corrected because he can't hear anything you're saying. Imagine telling a dog no and trying to train him but they can't hear you? It's also very dangerous to not be able to communicate with him by traditional means. If he was barreling towards a moving car we would have no way to recall him back to safety. It's extremely frustrating even for the savviest of dog people. He would be returned to us within days and Archer deserves more than that.

He has been enrolled in a board and train program designed for deaf and special needs dogs. We report to Orientation next week. Archer will be taught hand signals and trained with the tools needed for a deaf dog. Board and train will last until Archer is fully compliant and trained. His foster and our President will be at his graduation going through the training so that we can continue with it until he is adopted. His new family will be required to take classes with his trainer so that they are prepared with his command structure and training tools.

We are going to do what we always do here at HIP, keep our heads down, stay focused and work hard for the dogs. Archer's training is not cheap and our baby blue needs your help. Please consider a donation towards Archer's training. Without training, he will not succeed and that would be a tragedy.

Please consider a donation of any amount and share this beautiful boy's story.  He deserves a chance at a happy and calm life.

Thank You!

    Update-Baby Archer.
Archer is going to the head of the class, like we knew he would. Pete said he is excelling and doing exceptionally well. His trainers adore him and said Archer is full of love.

Archer's board and train is costly but he isn't adoptable without it. Please consider a donation towards Archer's training. Without training, he will not succeed and that would be a tragedy.

We wanted to show our gratitude and help make Archer's Training Fund a reality so we are offering our donors a chance to show off their HIP Pride. For your donation of $50.00 or more you will receive a HIPsters Unite T (sizes S-3XL). For your donation of $100.00 or more you will receive a HIPsters Unite Hoodie (sizes S-XL).

Please continue to share Archer's story.
