Help Abby Get Better!

Abby, a sweet one year old yellow lab who arrived in Connecticut with her five puppies has become very sick.  Despite getting excellent care in her foster home, and by two veterinary hospitals, Abby still needs additional diagnostic tests and care.  She is currently hospitalized at Sand Road Animal Hospital and we need your help to get her better and on her way to a forever home!  A donation of any amount is appreciated - please share!

Campaign Details

Last year Abby, a one year old yellow lab, was found injured after being hit by a car when running loose in Tennessee.  Paws and Claws of Tipton County (a Tennessee dog and cat rescue) paid for her care, and she was returned to her family once they were located.  Recently, Abby was surrendered to Paws and Claws, as her family had given her away to a couple who was not allowed to have dogs in their apartment.

When surrendered, it was found that Abby was pregnant.   Little Guild of St. Francis, a shelter based in West Cornwall, CT agreed to pull Abby, transport her to Connecticut, get her into a foster where she could have her puppies and live until she and her babies could be adopted.  She was moved into a Tennessee foster and a week later she made the long trip to Connecticut, where her new foster family met her.

Abby did well in her first days in New England.  She took excellent care of her five newborn puppies and was a delight to her foster family.  However, she quickly started to show signs of illness.  Abby's foster family took her to their vet, where she was diagnosed with pancreatitis, and received daily fluids and trips to the vet for several days.

When she was not showing signs of improving, Abby was transferred to another veterinary hospital, where more diagnostic tests were done and a possible diagnosis of salmonella was made.  She was hospitalized and her puppies were fed by bottle until they were able to eat a bit on their own.  The puppies are doing great and will remain in foster until they are 8 weeks old and ready for adoption.

Abby has now been transferred to Sand Road Animal Hospital in Falls Village, CT for additional care and diagnostics.  Her puppies remain in foster care.  To date, Abby's vet bills total more than $6,000 and she remains hospitalized at Sand Road Animal Hospital.

A donation toward Abby's care is tax-deductible and will directly support her vet bills.  Any amounts helps.  Please share!
