Elliot. Hit by car & left for dead.

Elliott is an abandoned hunting dog from Spain. He was struck by a car and left for dead. A kind person brought him to a vet and contacted American Brittany Rescue. His broken leg was repaired but has not mended properly. Elliott needs additional surgery. It will cost over $2000 to get this two-year-old to a happy home in the US. Fees include vet care, boarding in Spain, a crate, plus airfare for both him and a volunteer.  Please help.

    Update on Elliott

Unfortunately Elliot's third surgery to replace the failing hardware in his leg was not successful. The bone was just too shattered to be repaired. Therefore the decision was made to amputate the leg. This surgery was done several weeks ago and he is recuperating well. He is learning to be a tri-pod and like most dogs, he is adapting quickly. He should be ready to travel to the U.S. in October or November with 11 other Brittanys rescued by the ABR International Rescue Program. An amazing team of ABR volunteers will be bringing these dogs to the U.S.,  where they will then go to an ABR foster home until the right forever home is found.

Once again we would like to thank you for your contributions to Elliott. It is because of you that he was given the opportunity for the complex surgeries he has endured.

    Sincerely,

    ABR International Fundraising Team

    Hello, Friends of International Brittanys,

Thanks again for your generous donation to help Elliott.  We wanted to let you know he continues to improve.

Elliott is scheduled for his third surgery today.  The veterinarians will replace the current rod with a smaller one and add a muscle graft.

This positive development is possible because of your kindness and compassion.  We appreciate it a great deal.  We hope to report more good news soon.

    Sincerely,

    ABR International Fundraising Committee.

Thank you for helping us to reach our goal! Elliot had a second surgery and remains in Spain. The veterinarians are concerned that the bones are still not aligned perfectly, so he will stay there until he is comfortable enough to travel to a  forever home in the United States.

    Sincerely,

    American Brittany Rescue, Inc.

Campaign Details

American Brittany Rescue initiated an international rescue mission in 2017 after discovering the horrific conditions dogs endure in other countries. Sporting dogs, such as Brittanys, suffer the most because they are viewed as mere 'tools' in places such as Spain and Greece. Many areas of these countries are in dire financial shape, so hunting is viewed as a necessity, rather than a sport. By that logic, if a dog is not a good hunter, it is considered useless. Therefore it is abandoned, shot or poisoned.  Even "good" hunters are abused for minor infractions. They rarely, if ever, see the inside of a home. Instead, they are chained outside without shelter. Many receive minimal food or drink to honor the old superstition that a hungry dog hunts better.

Elliott was also a former hunting dog.  As a street dog, he was vulnerable to dangers such as being struck by that car.  The little French Brittany suffered from severe pain, all alone at the spot where he was run over until a Good Samaritan stepped up to rescue him.   We must save these dogs. We must welcome as many as possible to safe and loving families in the United States.

American Brittany Rescue has rescued over 10,000 dogs since its inception 27 years ago. We now have the opportunity to leverage that experience to broaden our mission. ABR teams up with partners overseas who want to rescue these dogs but do not have the resources to do so.  Together, we have saved over 200 overseas dogs to date, in countries such as Greece, Spain, Serbia, and Korea.   With your help, we can continue to save these dogs and provide them with the life they deserve.  Every donation helps make that a reality.  Please click the grid square for the amount you wish to donate or go to the main fundraising page for a specific amount. Then feel free to upload your favorite photo and share on social media.
