POST HURRICANE HARVEY UPDATE, AUG 30, 2017:

Over recent weeks we started fundraising and upgrading a building at our rescue and rehabilitation facility we affectionately call The Lodge. It is indoor/outdoor housing with large runs, great for those dogs that need a little more space to decompress or work off their energy.  It was not sufficiently climate-controlled, and we found as the summer heat came to Houston, we could no longer house dogs in this building. Renovations became a priority. All of the dogs were moved out and construction began.

Last week we were so excited to have nearly completed the project, all we had left to do was move in the kennels, and we'd be ready to house more dogs from the streets.  But that's when Harvey hit and wreaked havoc with our plans. Our facility is on the banks of Spring Creek in Tomball, and our newly renovated lodge flooded. Once we could get back in we were overwhelmed with the growth of mold.  We are going to need to tear out the walls, replace insulation and redo the floor and the ceiling.

In addition to this damage, the fences have fallen on our play yards and the soil washed away.  Our project is, unfortunately, now much larger than we had originally anticipated.  We've raised our fundraising goal to cover anticipated repairs.

Please consider helping us out and donating toward this much-needed project. No amount is too small!  Help us get the Lodge renovated so the dogs will be comfortable and safe.

_____

As many of you know, Corridor Rescue took over a kennel mid-January of this year.  It has been exciting, and it has also been quite a whirlwind to take on our very own facility.

With that said, as amazing as this property is, its original purpose as a private boarding kennel designed for families to board their dogs for short periods of time has proven insufficient for street dogs.

The facility is in desperate need of upgrades to meet the needs of our new residents!  Some renovations have started, but many projects are waiting for funds to complete the transformation.

This week, we started upgrading building on the property that we affectionately call The Lodge. It is indoor/outdoor housing, great for those dogs that need a little more space to decompress or work off their energy.  It was not sufficiently climate-controlled, and we found as the summer heat came to Houston, we could no longer house dogs in this building.  Renovations became a priority. All of the dogs have moved out of the building so that construction can begin.

Our contractor has started insulating and sealing the building.  We are also having his crew apply stainless steel to the interior walls so that we can better sanitize when cleaning. The current structure has large openings for access to the outside runs, which also thwarted our ability to cool the building. These are being closed in, and doggie doors are being installed.  We need to add gates to the outside runs so they can be accessed for cleaning purposes or to easily reach a dog. Awnings are being constructed over the outside runs so that the dogs in the Lodge have additional shade during the hot summer months.

We will need to purchase an air conditioning unit as well as fans to help circulate air.  We will also be adding plumbing to the Lodge, along with a sink, to improve our ability to clean and provide water for the dogs.

Last but not least, we are wanting to pour concrete for the outside runs to also allow for better sanitation. They will have a drain system and will keep our pups from being a muddy mess after storms.

This is no small undertaking!   These improvements are desperately needed and will be great once finished, but they have also made a big dent in our finances.  We have managed to get some great deals on materials and labor, but still, these much needed renovations have added up.

Please consider helping us out and donating toward this much-needed project. No amount is too small!  Help us get the Lodge renovated so the dogs will be comfortable and safe!

Thank you!
