A global day of fundraising, #GivingTuesday is here!
All year round, we work hard to save animals from local kill shelters, puppy mills and from the streets. From simply not wanted, to abused, we have delt with a lot this year. 490 dogs have already found safety with Phoenix Animal Rescue.
2023 has truly tested us and our abilities to make it work. We continued answering every puppy mill call received - whether it was a 2-pound puppy or a 156-pound breeding momma, we kept telling ourselves "we will figure it out" all while sending our volunteers to pick up the lucky dogs being released. One by one, we kept finding a bit more space, a bit more resources to assist. For when we truly could not take a dog, we found a rescue partner that could, so no Lancaster dog was left behind. No call was left unanswered.
Saving puppy mill dogs is unpredictable as the breeders are unreliable. One thing we could count on, all of the dogs need extensive care. From mammary mass removals to dentals, eye lid repairs, emergency spays and more, we have seen a lot. From driving over an hour each way to pick up a dog, to not knowing what kind of a behavior or medical we will need to deal with, saving puppy mill dogs is the most rewording but also costly. Almost all breeding moms and dads got dentals as standard care.
344 breeding dogs and "unsellable" puppies were released from the puppy mills into our care so far this year. 344 dogs that will no longer be used for profit, locked in cold barns or cages, expected to produce litters after litters or puppies.
