Bait puppy in terrible shape!

Urgent help needed for Reese!

We've got you now, Reese. You're safe. ❤️‍🩹

We have a new puppy named Reese in our care. She's in terrible shape and her story is heartbreaking.

This little girl is just 3 months old and only 10 pounds. She arrived at Memphis Animal Services with a broken jaw and puncture marks around her face and head. Sadly, these injuries are all too familiar—they are consistent with the injuries we see on puppies that were used as "bait puppies" in dog fighting rings.

We were called as a final rescue plea right before she was set to be humanely euthanized due to her injuries. And of course, we stepped up to take her.

Can you join us and help this baby girl?

Look at Reese’s incredible 21-day transformation!

When Reese first came to us, she was in pain, scared, and desperately needed help. But thanks to your unwavering support, we were able to provide her with the care she needed immediately. And in just three short weeks, she's blossomed into a completely different dog!

Now, Reese spends her days soaking up the sun, cuddling with her foster family, and enjoying the simple pleasures of running around and playing. Her biggest dilemma? Choosing which toy to play with next! And we love that for her!

When Reese arrived to our rescue, we made her a promise - the same promise we make to all the dogs who come through our doors: we'll do everything in our power to get them healthy and find them the happy tail they deserve.

Reese got a second chance at life because of you!

    Thank you,
    Tails of Hope

Well, it’s not exactly the news we wanted, but we’re very grateful for what has been done and what a wonderful life this little girl will lead.

From the awesome staff at Bluff City Veterinary Specialist:

"Reese is out of surgery and recovering well. That segmental piece of bone had lost blood supply and the bone had died so it had to be removed. The remaining bone that was fixed at the initial fracture repair is healing very well.”

She will continue to have no issues eating. she’s just going to be missing the 2 inch section on the right side of her lower jaw that had been broken away. Everything possible was done to save it, and all we could do is give it a shot and we did.

The fact of the matter is this little one is very lucky to be alive. She will lead a very good life. So onto the next step. She should not need any more surgeries. Now it’s just time for recovery.

    Thank you,
    Tails of Hope

Reese had a good night and resting very well from her first jaw surgery. The hope is her jawbone granulates and holds together, that the wire and pins hold everything until seals together. The good news there is blood supply! That means it is not completely dead.

    Thank you ??

Our girl had her first surgery and she did great!

    From Bluff City Veterinary Specialists:

“We put the mandible back together as closely as possible with cerclage wire and suture due to how soft the bone is because she’s a puppy. The front of her bottom jaw was completely gone, but the skin around the area was reconstructed to give her the most normal looking jaw “

Thank you again for rallying around puppy Reese!

    Thank you ??

Reese is one strong girl! ?? And despite everything she's endured, her tail still wags!

Here’s a video of our baby sweetheart girl.

Reese underwent a CT scan revealing multiple fractures, including 3 mandibular fractures on her right side, a fracture through the left side of her sinuses, a fracture through the left side of her hard palate, and a fracture through the left eye orbit. Alongside these injuries, she also suffered a complete degloving of her lower jaw and bruising on her belly. And unfortunately, all of these wounds are consistent with “bait dog” injuries.

Here’s a video of her CT.

Today marks the first of several surgeries she will need on her healing journey. It's going to be a complex process, but she's in excellent hands at Bluff City Veterinary Specialists.

We're incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated and shared. You’re amazing!

Of course, we'll keep you updated on sweet Reese's progress over the coming months. In the meantime, please keep the love and support coming — she deserves it!

    Thank you ??
