We're Saving Lives - We Need Your Help!

We need your help!

At the beginning of January, we were hit with an unprecedented number of medical emergencies for newly rescued cats, as well as cats already in foster care. The pace has not let up.  We need your support!

Give Me Shelter Project holds the belief that 'Each Animal Counts'. No matter the age, color, breed, or temperament, they are all important in our eyes, purrfect in their own special way.

Our mission is 'Changing the world one animal at a time'. We invite you to be part of that change!! Your support is crucial to our work and every dollar counts!

The Joy of HOPE!

We received a call from a homeowner saying that a cat was laying in the same place on his lawn the entire day, not moving but she was still breathing. One of our rescuers went to investigate and thus began Hope's journey from brink of death to happy-go-lucky 8 month old kitten.

Hope was diagnosed with metabolic bone disease.  On x-ray, her bones looked translucent (like a ghost).  She would "wobble-walk" and then fall over.  She was dehydrated, emaciated (weighed 4.6 lbs), she could not eat on her own (could not hold her head up) and had to be syringe fed. BUT she wanted the food when offered the syringe. She wanted to live!

Hope's heart was huge on x-ray and there was a shard of something in her stomach (perhaps a bone from something she ate).  She ran a fever on and off.  Her path to recovery involved multiple blood tests, multiple x-rays, ultrasound of heart, ultrasound of abdomen, enemas and multiple medications. Our vet described her as a "glass" kitten with a spine so fragile that it could fracture and render her paralyzed at any point. Hope didn't know any of this dire information and proceeded to give herself "physical therapy" by playing with everything in sight thereby exercising every part of her body.

Fast forward two months and Hope is an inspiration for all.  She did not want to be protected... She wanted to play with the "big kids" (all older and much bigger cats).  She still wobbles when she walks but she can run so fast that she could compete in any horse race! She plays endlessly and has encouraged other lazy cats to play with her. She helped two semi feral cats come out of their shells. Her x-rays are becoming more normal as is her bloodwork.

Hope does not want to be held or loved by humans and she will run from her foster mom. She just wants to be with other cats and play day and night.  She finds joy in everything!  We should all be so lucky!  :-)
When another cat smacks her, she is unfazed and continues looking for other playmates or plays by herself.   This little pipsqueak will push other cats out of the way if she prefers the food they are eating.
No one can watch her without breaking out in a grin.  Side note to all those adopters who ONLY want affectionate "lap cats".  All cats have much to offer.

Hope is truly an inspiration and a model for how to live your best life!!!

Saving Hope cost us $4400 to date and although this has been a hard hit on us financially, she is worth every penny.  Each animal really does count. Your donations help us save cats like Hope.
