Help Rescue Our Rescue During COVID

We urgently need your help!

We're in serious trouble at American Maltese Association Rescue and need your help! Just before COVID-19 really hit, AMAR had a lot of expensive medical procedures done on some of our foster dogs. We spent over $24,000 in the first three months of 2020. Because of the impact of COVID-19 and its ensuing restrictions, we're barely getting any donations to replenish our funds to take care of the dogs already in our care. These dogs are fosters and permanent fosters. Because of this, we've had to put a hold on taking in new dogs! With your help, we hope to raise enough money to open our doors again to new dogs who need us.

Under ordinary circumstances, we've had Giving Grid fundraisers for some of our rescue dog's very expensive surgeries. But, this year has been far from ordinary.  Sadie Bear needed $1200 surgery on a huge mammary tumor that was cancerous. Bolt came to us with seizures and we spent $1700 for two trips to the ER. And London had life saving surgery on her heart. She wouldn't have lasted past her first birthday without it. Her bill alone came to nearly $5,000. We've known that so many of our supporters have been suffering with the economy and some have lost jobs. We didn't want to be insensitive to that, so didn't ask for money to cover any of these three bills, but now we find that we can't fulfill our mission to take in Maltese and Maltese mixes in need, without your financial help.

It was a hard decision reaching out for funds knowing what tough times many of our followers are having and we've put it off, not wanting to be insensitive. But we've hit a critical point where we need a way to carry on. We appreciate those who can give and wish those who can't, better times ahead. We understand how hard it is. If you just share this post it will help.

It's been a very hard decision but we put a hold on taking in new dogs  because we can't drain our funds. That would leave dogs we already have in foster care in jeopardy if they have medical issues or need ongoing medications.

The funds we are asking for will help us pay for vet visits, blood work, spay/neuter, heart and seizure meds, dentals and prescription foods for the dogs we have in our care. This will help us while the pandemic isolation period is going on and afterwards get us up and running sooner to take in more dogs and adopt them out.

American Maltese Association Rescue (AMAR)  is a national all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. AMAR was formed for the charitable purposes of rescuing Maltese and Maltese mixes who are homeless, or soon-to-be homeless, found in animal shelters, hoarder homes, puppy mills, other rescues or those relinquished by their owners or their heirs. The dogs are provided with care, training and necessary veterinary services including spay/neutering, dental, surgeries, etc.  Maltese rescue also focuses on education of the public regarding breed characteristics, responsible dog ownership, training and humane care of a Maltese.

You can help us by donating! If you can't, then please share our fundraiser with others! No amount is too small.  We expect that after people go back to work, more dogs than ever will be in need of our rescue and we need to be there to help. Thank you so much!

UPDATE 05/03/20 We have been absolutely blown away by the generosity of donors to American Maltese Association Rescue.  Our campaign has hit $4845.00 since it's launch on Friday!! That's nearly twice the $2,500 we asked for! Wow!!!  And it turns out that we needed the extra funds imminently, as the day before  this fundraiser was launched one of our rescue dogs had to go in for an extensive dental costing $2,500, but we didn't know in time to change our goal. So all of you are our heroes for pushing past that first goal. We know that some of you started your own fundraisers passing ours on to your friends and family and we really appreciate it. Not a single person involved with AMAR is paid, so you know that every cent goes to the dogs and their needs.  We're less than $160 away from doubling our original goal, so please share our fundraiser if you can and if you didn't donate yet, even a small amount makes a big different.  Again, thank you so much!!
