Savannah is Suffering, Please Help!

One-year old Savannah was suffering at a shelter. The shelter contacted us to let us know that Savannah had a fractured leg which was becoming swollen from her upper thigh and progressing down through the entire limb. In addition, she had puncture wounds on her front legs. The shelter didn't have the resources to help her so we rushed in to pick up Savannah and take her into rescue. Poor Savannah was in so much pain that she was unable to stand and walk; she had to be carried into our vet's office with her swollen leg dangling.

Please help us to help Savannah. We are Savannah's only hope.

Thank you for your support of this very sweet girl.

Good news! Savannah has been adopted!

Savannah has said goodbye to the wonderful foster home she had for 7 weeks during the earlier part of her recovery and is now living in her forever home. Although she is moving pretty well, she is still another 2 months away from full play capability.

None of this would have been possible without the help of generous donors, such as yourself. Thank you for helping us to get Savannah well and into a loving home.

Here are some pictures of Savannah in her new home:

Savannah is in a foster home and working on her recovery. Here's the latest information.

Savannah’s recovery is coming along slowly. She can take short walks, but there is still obvious pain in her leg. She sometimes puts weight on her leg but also sometimes she just touches it down. Sitting is still uncomfortable. Her foster has done some leg manipulating and hopes to get her in a pool for rehab, as there is obvious muscle atrophy. She is due for another recheck, with x-rays, for the surgeon to reassess.

Savannah has lost too much weight, so either her feeding guidelines are inadequate, or there is another underlying condition. We will be adjusting Savannah's meals to see if that takes care of the problem. We hope it does.

In the meantime, Savannah's expenses continue to mount. Her care is ongoing and we will continue to need the support of our kind donors to make sure Savannah gets all the care she needs.

Please share Savannah's story with anyone you feel may be interested in helping. Posting her story on social media would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for all of your help!

    Warmly,

Here's an update on Savannah that we'd like to share with you.

Savannah was able to shed her bandages (see picture below). That's a pretty nasty set of staples, don’t you think? They should come out in a week or so.

We were able to send her to a foster home to continue her recovery. The foster family is being careful to control her natural puppy desire to explore. They walk her outside with a sling for bathroom breaks and then return to the house to her crate or a small gated area. She still needs help walking and naturally has residual pain.

Thank you for helping us to get Savannah the help she needs. She will continue to need medical care for a while and this will require that we continue to raise funds. Please share Savannah's story with anyone you feel may be interested in helping. Posting her story on social media would also be greatly appreciated.

We have an update on Savannah for you.

Savannah had the surgery to repair her fractured leg. The surgeon used 2 plates to make the repair because Savannah is so young and he wanted to ensure that she would be able to enjoy years of active playing.

She still feels some pain, but she probably doesn't realize it's from the surgery, not the injury. It will be hard to keep this young girl quiet now, but we'll do our best so that she can heal quickly and completely. Savannah is destined for a month of crate and small pen rest, with support to go outside to the bathroom. Even with her e-collar on, she wants to grab that itchy bandage so she has to be watched to make sure that doesn't happen.

Here's what's coming up for Savannah: She has suture/staple removal and recheck x-rays scheduled for 2 weeks and 4 weeks post-surgery. We'll keep you updated on how that goes and the progress she is making.

We have not yet payed for her surgery and medical care. We hope to raise a little more money to help with that.

You can help with Savannah's bills by sharing this campaign with anyone you know who may be interested in helping. Every little bit will help us to give Savannah the best care possible.

Thank you for all of your support!

Campaign Details

When Savannah arrived at the shelter, her leg was x-rayed. It was clear that Savannah had a complete femoral fracture. (The femur is the large thigh bone.) The fractured piece could be seen separated from the rest of the femur. The x-rays also showed a cloudy image of the lungs, which could have indicated a collapsed lung or pneumonia. The latter would prohibit immediate surgery.

Upon arriving at our vet's office, Savannah was immediately started on pain medication and our vet took a more complete set of x-rays. In these new x-rays, Savannah's lungs looked clear so we believe they probably re-inflated. Savannah did not have pneumonia, so her surgery to repair the fractured leg can be scheduled.

The combined injuries cause us to believe that Savannah was in a car accident, but we will never know. What matters now is that we begin work to heal her.

Please consider a donation of any amount to help with Savannah's surgery and care. We know that Savannah will undoubtedly be grateful for any help you can give. And please share Savannah's fundraising campaign with friends and family.

Thank you so much for your help!
