Toss Some Hay Our Way!

Brrr! This might be ♫ lovely weather for a sleigh ride together, but the cold is tough on horses, and it takes more than ♪ chestnuts roasting on an open fire to keep them warm. With no grass, it takes lots of HAY.  Please help. We have over 130 retired equines on our Georgetown farm, and each needs a bale or more per day when the weather turns arctic. That's 4,000 bales a month! A tax-deductible donation will assure that ♪ our hay will come! ♫

The mornings have turned crisp and frosty. The horses trot toward their caregivers with happy greetings of snorts and bucks. For the humans at Old Friends, winter brings the daily challenges of knocking ice off the waterers, slogging through mud (or slipping on ice) with feed and hay twice a day, and checking that the horse blankets haven't gone all twisty overnight. In the office, our number of visitors drops a lot in the winter months and we search for new ways to raise funds to replace that loss. With over 200 horses in our care (from Kentucky Derby winners to many who never saw the inside of a winner’s circle) we go through an enormous amount of hay. We hope you will extend a helping 'hoof' again this year by donating toward our winter care needs. On behalf of the Old Friends herd, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Old Friends provides a lifetime of dignified retirement to Thoroughbreds whose racing and breeding careers have ended. But we couldn't do what we do without our generous supporters (pssst, that’s you). Please help Old Friends this season by making a tax-deductible donation. See below for examples of how your gift will help:

$10 Can buy two bales of hay!

$25 Can buy five bags of stall shavings

$50 Can buy a round hay bale for large pastures

$100 Can buy five bags of senior feed

$150 Can pay for two visits from the vet

$200 Can buy a brand new winter blanket

$250 Can pay for a herd visit from the farrier
