Dear Friends and Supporters,
I’m writing to you today with a heavy heart about the reality facing Looking Glass Animal Rescue. After nearly 10 years of operation, during which we’ve saved over 4,000 animals, we are now in great peril. The truth is, we’re struggling to keep our doors open, and I’m deeply worried about what the future holds—not just for us, but for the broader rescue community.
The state of animal rescue is dire. Shelters are overflowing, and the overpopulation of dogs & cats continues to spiral. Many rescues, like ours, are stretched beyond capacity, and insufficient funding is forcing some to close their doors entirely. We’re seeing this happen more and more, and it’s heartbreaking - and I am terrified we will be next if we don't get help. The animals don’t stop coming, but the resources to care for them are dwindling.
At Looking Glass, we currently have over 30 animals in our care; some healthy and waiting to be adopted, others, going through intensive medical treatments to get back to health, and still others in training working on becoming the best buddy they can be. Each one relies on us for food, shelter, medical care, and love. But the lack of adoptions and fundraising has driven our expenses through the roof. Every animal in a foster home costs money to house and care for, and with limited space, we’re unable to take in new animals. This perpetuates the cycle of overcrowding at shelters, leaving more animals at risk; leaving us in danger of not making it to our 10th anniversary.
I’ve never been more terrified about the future of Looking Glass and the animals in our community. This isn’t an exaggeration or a cry for attention—it’s the reality we’re facing.
We’ve always tried to sustain ourselves without constantly asking for help, but we’ve reached a point where we can’t do this alone anymore. Small nonprofits like ours, doing critical work to save lives, often feel forgotten.
Here’s where we stand: we have over 8,000 people on this email list. If each of you could donate just $25, we could secure a lifeline to pay off our debts and keep our mission alive. No amount is too small—every dollar helps us continue to provide care and find homes for these animals.
This isn’t easy for me to write. Asking for help feels vulnerable, especially when we’ve worked so hard to stand on our own. But the animals we serve, and the ones still waiting for rescue, deserve every effort we can give.
Please, if you’re able, donate whatever you can to help us stay afloat. If at all possible, please consider becoming a monthly donor to provide ongoing support for our mission to save and care for animals in need. You can do so directly through our website www.lgarinc.org.
Thank you for standing with us and for caring about the animals who have nowhere else to turn. Together, we can keep Looking Glass Animal Rescue going and continue making a difference, one life at a time.
With gratitude and urgency,
Jody
