The Great Peril of Rescue

Urgent help needed for LGAR Dogs & Cats!

This isn't easy for me to write. Asking for help feels vulnerable, especially when we've worked so hard to stand on our own. But the animals we serve, and the one's still waiting for rescue, deserve every effort we can give.

We need your support, now more than ever, to help us keep fighting for animals in need!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I’m writing to you today with a heavy heart about the reality facing Looking Glass Animal Rescue. After nearly 10 years of operation, during which we’ve saved over 4,000 animals, we are now in great peril. The truth is, we’re struggling to keep our doors open, and I’m deeply worried about what the future holds—not just for us, but for the broader rescue community.

The state of animal rescue is dire. Shelters are overflowing, and the overpopulation of dogs & cats continues to spiral. Many rescues, like ours, are stretched beyond capacity, and insufficient funding is forcing some to close their doors entirely. We’re seeing this happen more and more, and it’s heartbreaking - and I am terrified we will be next if we don't get help. The animals don’t stop coming, but the resources to care for them are dwindling.

At Looking Glass, we currently have over 30 animals in our care; some healthy and waiting to be adopted, others, going through intensive medical treatments to get back to health, and still others in training working on becoming the best buddy they can be. Each one relies on us for food, shelter, medical care, and love. But the lack of adoptions and fundraising has driven our expenses through the roof. Every animal in a foster home costs money to house and care for, and with limited space, we’re unable to take in new animals. This perpetuates the cycle of overcrowding at shelters, leaving more animals at risk; leaving us in danger of not making it to our 10th anniversary.

I’ve never been more terrified about the future of Looking Glass and the animals in our community. This isn’t an exaggeration or a cry for attention—it’s the reality we’re facing.

We’ve always tried to sustain ourselves without constantly asking for help, but we’ve reached a point where we can’t do this alone anymore. Small nonprofits like ours, doing critical work to save lives, often feel forgotten.

Here’s where we stand: we have over 8,000 people on this email list. If each of you could donate just $25, we could secure a lifeline to pay off our debts and keep our mission alive. No amount is too small—every dollar helps us continue to provide care and find homes for these animals.

This isn’t easy for me to write. Asking for help feels vulnerable, especially when we’ve worked so hard to stand on our own.  But the animals we serve, and the ones still waiting for rescue, deserve every effort we can give.

Please, if you’re able, donate whatever you can to help us stay afloat. If at all possible, please consider becoming a monthly donor to provide ongoing support for our mission to save and care for animals in need. You can do so directly through our website www.lgarinc.org.

Thank you for standing with us and for caring about the animals who have nowhere else to turn. Together, we can keep Looking Glass Animal Rescue going and continue making a difference, one life at a time.

With gratitude and urgency,

Jody

We hope you all had a joyful and safe Fourth of July celebration!

We’re so grateful to everyone who has donated so far—thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We’re thrilled to share a quick update: we’ve reached 73% of our fundraising goal! If you haven’t already, please consider donating—any amount helps—and sharing our mission with friends and family. Don’t forget, many companies offer corporate matching programs, so check with your employer to potentially double or even triple your contribution!

While we’re incredibly appreciative of how far we’ve come, we still need your support to keep fighting the good fight. We’re actively seeking corporate sponsors or any sponsorships to create a steady income stream, ensuring we can plan for the future and care for more animals in need. We also encourage you to become a monthly donor—even a small amount makes a huge difference in helping us provide consistent care and open our doors to new rescues.

Thank you again for standing with us. Together, we’re making a difference, one animal at a time!

    With gratitude,
The Looking Glass Animal Rescue Team

    Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are deeply grateful for every one of you who has contributed to our fundraiser. Your generosity has pushed us past 50% of our $10,000 goal, and we can’t thank you enough for standing by us. Your support is a lifeline for our nonprofit and the dogs and cats we care for.

That said, we are still in desperate need. Our $10,000 goal, while critical, is only a small fraction of what we truly need to keep going. Our debts are more than four times that amount, and we’re fighting to keep our doors open. As a nonprofit that has always strived to stand on our own, it’s humbling and even embarrassing to ask for help like this. But the truth is, we’re struggling to survive.

For years, we’ve been one of the most authentic and committed organizations in this field, focusing on the hardest cases—the dogs and cats others overlook because their situations are too heartbreaking or too costly. We’ve never shied away from these challenges, pouring our hearts into saving and caring for the most vulnerable. Right now, we’re struggling to support the 30 dogs and cats currently in our care, let alone rescue others who desperately need us.

We come to you with our hats in hand, asking for your continued support. Every dollar helps us chip away at our overwhelming credit card and vet bills. We’ll keep asking until we can breathe a little easier, knowing we can sustain our mission. Your donations, no matter the size, are a lifeline for these animals and for us.

Thank you again for believing in our work. We’re not giving up, and with your help, we hope to keep fighting for the dogs and cats who need us most.

    With heartfelt gratitude,

Jody & the Looking Glass Animal Rescue team ❤️🙏
