URGENT FUND FOR SECOND CHANCE RESCUE NYC

We urgently need your help!

URGENT FUND Please join our community. One of the biggest challenges our rescue faces is the aftercare of many of the animals we take into our care. Initially, we receive donations from generous supporters to help pull an animal to safety and provide the immediate care they may require. The call to action is usually a mad dash to raise funds to save an animal from euthanasia or horrific living conditions in a shelter or an abusive or neglectful home. We always try to say yes to any animal that needs us. The phones never stop ringing with pleas to save hundreds of animals lives. We rely on donations to play our important part in the community. The animals need us and they need you.

Please donate to our Urgent Fund and be a part of our rescue community. Every animal we save is a risk to us because it is not until we have them in our care that we know what kind of financial commitment they will be. We say, "yes we will save your life," and we always try to find a way to make it happen. There are so many ways you can help us help them. Please help us continue our mission and provide a safe place for these souls to get a second chance.

Some of our Animals Tell their Stories

TOBY--
Hi, my name is Toby. Second Chance Rescue NYC saved me when they received a call that I was seconds away from being euthanized at only two months old because of the horrible Parvovirus. I was surrendered to their rescue because I was very sick and I required urgent care. Second Chance Rescue NYC saved my life, and I am getting better every day!
MACBETH-- Hi my name is Macbeth, and I am one of the Hurricane Harvey survivors! Second Chance Rescue NYC saved me after a good Samaritan found me. I was severely anemic, skinny, and my skin was terribly infected. I had all but given up, but I survived, not once but twice! I am now at a behavioral training facility where I am working on my socialization skills and receiving medicated baths to heal my skin. They are taking very good care of me.
CATALINA-- Hi my name is Catalina. Second Chance Rescue NYC saved me from the euthanasia list four years ago at the ACC. I was adopted and returned. So I was very very happy when I was recently accepted into the RIKERS ROVERS INMATE PROGRAM here in NYC. Everyone loved me, and everything was going very well until weird things began happening with my health. I have hydrocephalus and will require intense treatment.
HANNAH-- Hi, my name is Hannah. Second Chance Rescue Saved me from Georgia. I was in a high kill shelter because my mom couldn't take care of me anymore because she lost her home and she couldn't pay for my medical care. I have lymphoma and was told that I wouldn't live more than a few months, but because Second Chance Rescue saved my life and provided me with monthly chemotherapy and doctors appointments I have been alive for 3 years!! I have taught humane education and inspired a little boy to go to his family and say he wanted to adopt a dog like me rather than buy a puppy!
EDDIE MILO-- Hi my name is Eddie Milo. Second Chance Rescue NYC rescued me from a high kill shelter after I was surrendered with severe injuries. Because of Second Chance Rescue NYC, I can attend rehabilitation therapy once a week at a wonderful place called Water4dogs, I have a wheelchair, play with my other foster brothers and sisters and can even take a few steps once in a while! I also taught humane education to kids. P.S. I am still waiting for my loving forever home.
OLIVIA-- Hi my name is Olivia. Second Chance Rescue NYC rescued me when I was found roaming the streets pregnant and ready to give birth. I am 1 year old and Leukemia positive. I am currently in boarding and am looking for someone to foster me. I don't have any symptoms right now but when I do the rescue will be financially responsible for all medical costs. I love life and all people.

Please contribute to help us and our animals continue to thrive.

"We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided." ~ JK Rowling

We thank you all for what you have given in the recent times; we are so grateful. Your support and contributions are the foundation for our saving these lives and offering second chances.  With you we are united.

We have some updates for you on some of the dogs that you have so generously supported. Firstly, Toby, the pug that was minutes from euthanasia because he was suffering from the deadly Parvovirus, was adopted to his forever home! Since his arrival in his new home, Toby has done very well. He loves his furbrothers and sisters. He is now a happy, healthy fun loving puppy who is finally able to live life like a puppy should. Toby struck gold when everyone came together to be sure he got this chance.

Catalina, who was doing amazing community service participating in the Rikers Rovers program (prison program) and had to be withdrawn because she started displaying symptoms of being ill has been diagnosed with Hydrocephalus. She will have a spinal tap tomorrow at our Vet to ascertain what the next steps of treatment will be.

We have recently added three new cases that will be in our URGENT GIVING FUND. Each one of them is heartbreaking and will be costly to our rescue.  Henna was found wandering the streets as a stray with part of her back missing. We are sure it was not from another dog or a car. Which leads us to believe it could have been intentional. Unfortunately, we don't have any witnesses. Therefore only sweet Henna knows what she has lived. The Emergency Vet was able to reattach the entire piece of Hennas back successfully that was hanging off her body. The next 72 hrs are critical to making sure the procedure is not rejected and can withstand any infection.

We rescued Layla late last week from the Euthanasia list in an NYC Shelter. As you can see from her photo, she has probably dreamed of making the pain her stomach go away from starvation. She has suffered at the hands of someone that abused and neglected her.  She only weighs 34 pounds and her bones ache from malnutrition. The vets believe Layla has not had a meal for at least three weeks. Her blood sugar levels are high because of all the stress her little body is under. She has excessive thirst which they believe is due to her body trying to catch up from all the starvation. They are Slowly introducing food to Layla, so her organs don't go into shock and shut down.  Despite all of this she is so sweet welcomes any loving touch that is offered.

Lastly, we just took in a dog named Beatrix. What has been done to this dog is UNFORGIVABLE.  We received a very disturbing call from one of our informants that Beatrix was forcefully thrown out of a speeding vehicle and instead of passerby's helping her, they threw her into a shopping cart and walked away. Because of both heinous actions, Beatrix is now fighting for her life, the adrenaline has worn off and she is giving up. She was found with hypothermia, and her temperature is barely registering. She is emaciated and covered in sores, ticks, and fleas, she is unable to use her back legs because she is too weak. We are doing everything we can to help save her life.

Thank you for your continued support. We cherish you and your kind generosity. Please consider sharing this with anyone who you feel may want to be part of our community and help us with the mounting medical bills we have incurred.

     love,

All of us at SCR xoxo

We wanted to thank you all so very much for your generosity and for being a part of our Giving Grid community fundraiser. We have reached nearly 30 percent of our goal, and for that we are grateful. To mention just a few ways your contributions are helping our mission; Macbeth is receiving behavior rehabilitation where he is learning to socialize with other dogs and is learning how to listen and respond to direction; because of your help, we can set him up for success and eventually put him into a loving forever home. Unfortunately, Toby has now come down with a lung infection and will require a further ten days (if all goes well) of hospitalization. Over the weekend we also received urgent pleas for two dogs that were in desperate need of rescuing. Vegas was on the euth list at the ACC and is suffering from severe skin infections, and Henrietta is from the Bahamas (as we partner with The Voiceless Dogs of Nassau) and is suffering from starvation, venereal tumor, Heartworm, Ehrlichia and fungal infections all over her body. By you sharing this campaign with all of your friends, colleagues, and business associates who you feel may want to help us; you will be enabling us to provide the urgent care our animals need and opening the doors for other animals that need us. There are so many that do.

Below you will see Macbeth with one of the trainer's dogs as he learns socialization skills.

Here is a photo of Henrietta that we took into our care this weekend

    Thank you again!
