Winnie’s journey has never been easy.
She came from a rural breeding situation where she was used for litter after litter, then discarded once she was no longer profitable. When she arrived at rescue, she was sick, suffering from painful eye and ear infections, and deeply nervous from everything she had endured.
Through medical care, patience, and love, Winnie slowly began to heal. She learned what safety felt like. She learned how to trust. And just one month ago, she was adopted into a loving home—finally getting the fresh start she so deeply deserved.
Then tragedy struck.
While her adopters were away, Winnie was left with a dog sitter. In a heartbreaking lapse of judgment, she was allowed outside off-leash, behind only a short fence and without supervision. Winnie panicked and ran.
She has now been missing for two weeks.
During that time, Winnie has crossed major roadways, survived freezing temperatures, and has miraculously avoided being hit by cars. She is frightened, in survival mode, and unable to simply “come home” on her own. Dogs like Winnie require experienced, professional lost-dog recovery efforts—careful trapping, strategic placement of food stations, motion-sensing cameras, and constant monitoring.
That expertise comes from Tailed Treasures.
Tailed Treasures is a Maryland-based lost animal recovery organization run by Jill Barsky and her incredible team. Jill has over 30 years of experience in animal rescue and 15 years dedicated specifically to lost-animal recovery and humane trapping. Her work is widely respected, and she has been recognized by our community—including receiving a Governor’s Citation from former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.
Despite the intensity and urgency of this work, Tailed Treasures does not charge for its services. Jill believes that every family deserves help finding their beloved pet, regardless of income or circumstance.
Lost-dog recovery is not passive—it is a 24/7 commitment:
-
setting and adjusting humane traps
-
monitoring cameras day and night
-
managing sightings and patterns
-
responding immediately when opportunities arise
For Winnie alone, Jill and her team have already spent over $1,000 out of pocket.
Tailed Treasures has no benefactors, no grants, and no recurring funding. Jill is a commission-based real estate agent, meaning her ability to personally fund these efforts fluctuates with the market. Without consistent community donations, she will be forced to stop doing this critical work.
And without donations, the search for Winnie cannot continue.
Tailed Treasures is skilled, dedicated, and relentless—they will catch Winnie. But they cannot do it alone.
Please consider donating if you are able. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps keep the search going—not just for Winnie, but for countless lost animals who depend on this organization. And please please please share with your network!! Because of kind and generous people who donate and share, Winnie, and other animals, are able to find their way home because of Tailed Treasures!
With the community’s support, we can bring Winnie home.
