Unleash Your Generosity!

Every dog deserves a good home, but too many end up in shelters or on the street through no fault of their own. Save the Strays rescues and cares for dogs at risk, nurturing both body and spirit until they are ready for adoption. Dogs that are not or cannot be adopted because of age, health or behavior have a home with us for life.

Rescue, rehome, repeat is our mission and our passion. But costs for veterinary care, food and other necessities have almost doubled in the past 3 years. WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Please DONATE and SHARE OUR CAMPAIGN today so we can continue to save dogs that might otherwise be abandoned or sent to high-kill shelters.

I'm thrilled to report that our holiday campaign surpassed its $8500 goal, and we're still anticipating a few outstanding pledges. A HUGE SHOUT OUT to all of our supporters who made this result possible. Thanks to you, we're off to a solid start for 2025.

We've already put a portion of your gifts to work by starting KAI's heartworm treatment. She received her first immiticide injection January 7th and will have the final two on February 4th and 5th. Barring any complications, she will be ready for adoption around the beginning of March.

Your donations also helped pay for emergency treatment for ITCHY, a senior Chihuahua who came to us with a head injury/concussion. She was neurologic when we got her, but after four days in the hospital, she is on the road to recovery, although she has lost sight in one eye. The vet says it may return; it's just a wait-and-see situation. In the meantime, she's resting comfortably here.

Never doubt that your generosity makes an enormous difference to the work our small rescue can accomplish and, more importantly, in the lives of the dogs that come here. Blessings and a very happy, healthy, joyful New Year to you all!

Another big THANK YOU to everyone who has donated to our holiday fundraiser this year. We only reached 65% of our goal but be assured that every dollar we received will be used to benefit the dogs here at the rescue. Our Giving Grid will be active for another week, so it's not too late to SHARE OUR CAMPAIGN with the other animal lovers in your life. Thank you again and happy new year!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone who has donated to our holiday fundraiser so far. But, with just 2 days 'til Christmas, we're less than halfway to our goal.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and the number of dogs we can rescue depends on how much we raise. Our grid will be active through the New Year, so we can still get there if you SHARE OUR CAMPAIGN with other like-minded animal lovers. Every dollar makes a difference, so please ask your friends and family to chip in to help us save lives! Merry Christmas to all!

Campaign Details

The holiday season is a time for family. For many of us, that includes our dogs. But some dogs have no homes or family - a harsh reality at any time of year but especially sad during the holidays. KAI was just one example.

This young dog was found on a busy highway, dodging traffic. How she ended up there is anyone's guess. But fortunately for her, two young ladies stopped and took a half-hour out of their busy day to catch her and bring her to safety here at Save the Strays. Now she's living in a home with other dogs, sleeping in a warm bed and getting lots of nutritious food, cuddles and play time.

We took Kai to our vet for an exam, vaccines and heartworm test. Unfortunately, she has tested positive for heartworms so she will be with us for several months while we get her treated.

This is what we do - all year round - but we need your help to do it. That's why we're asking you to unleash your generosity and donate today.

On average, it costs us about $600 to ready a healthy dog for adoption. The cost goes up from there if the dog needs more than an intake exam, vaccines, heartworm and fecal tests and a spay or neuter. For example, Kai's heartworm treatment is estimated to cost about $1,000. She gets her first injection January 6, 2025.

Yet, to make adoption an affordable option, our adoption fee is typically $300 - less if a dog is older or has a medical condition. Sometimes we waive the fee entirely. Since, unlike county shelters, we receive no municipal funding, we count on you to help us keep going.

If, like us, you believe it's all about getting dogs off the streets and into good homes, PLEASE DONATE TO SAVE THE STRAYS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON. As an all-volunteer, all foster home-based rescue, we keep overhead and extraneous costs to a bare minimum. Almost 94% of every dollar we receive goes to provide veterinary services, food, bedding and other supplies for the dogs in our care. Not many nonprofits can make that claim, and we're proud of our record.
