The building that caught fire has been deemed completely uninhabitable due to extensive water damage from the firefighting efforts. Water poured through walls, ceilings, electrical systems, and flooring.
SNARR operates out of two buildings. The eight dogs housed in the damaged building had to be immediately moved into our second facility, which was already overflowing. Now, eight more displaced dogs have been added to an already full shelter. The strain on our staff is overwhelming. And the financial impact could be catastrophic.
While we are incredibly grateful to have insurance, the reality is that insurance will not cover everything. We are already facing significant expenses for emergency boarding, temporary housing solutions, transportation, and day-to-day care for our animals while we navigate this crisis.
Even more frightening is the condition of the damaged building itself. Our shelter was built in the 1920s. As we begin rebuilding, we will be required to bring portions of the structure up to modern building codes. The insurance adjuster explained that many of these upgrades; including replacing antiquated plumbing and electrical systems, may not be covered by insurance.
The cost for those upgrades alone could reach $70,000-90,000. For a large organization, that number is daunting. For a small rescue like SNARR, it is terrifying.
Many people assume that because SNARR has a national network of supporters and foster homes, we are a large organization. The truth is that we are a small rescue with a huge heart. Today, we are asking for help. Not for us. For the future of SNARR.
We know times are hard. We know so many people are struggling. But today, we are humbly asking our community to stand with us.
Every dollar donated will go directly toward helping us recover from this disaster, caring for our displaced dogs, rebuilding what was lost, and ensuring we can continue our mission of saving the animals who have nowhere else to go. No donation is too small. Truly. Whether it’s $1, $5, $25, or more, every single dollar brings us one step closer to rebuilding a place where homeless dogs can find safety, healing, and hope. If you cannot donate, please share this post. Share it with your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors.
Today we are heartbroken. Today we are overwhelmed. But today we are also reminded that we are not alone. We have always believed in the power of this community, and today we are asking you to stand with us. Please help us continue saving lives.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
