We Are Energizing Education!

What is more important to a kid's future than learning to read?

N-O-T-H-I-N-G.

Energizing Education (EE) is a community response to ensure students meet one critical milestone: early grade reading.  Around 10% of students in all Jackson County elementary schools are falling behind, but they can catch back up with our help.

EE is working great - we need your support to continue & grow.  It's good for our businesses, and families, and community.

Campaign Details

The facts are in: Reading is essential to learning in school and succeeding in life. Studies show that students who gain solid literacy skills by 4th grade are up to four times more likely to graduate from high school, pursue post-secondary learning, and find a rewarding career.

On the flip side, those who are not reading well enough by fourth grade are many times more likely to wind up in poverty, in prison, and relying on public benefits rather than leading a productive life.

The great thing is, we have the opportunity to get kids off that second pathway and onto the path of success.  Energizing Education helps students in Jackson reach that reading standard—and we need your support to maintain that success!

 Here's how Energizing Education works:

In-School Mentoring – Adult volunteer mentors, coached by a literacy specialist in the schools, work one-on-one with students in reading, writing and vocabulary in half-hour sessions twice a week.  Most students show remarkable gains, very quickly.

Family Engagement – Events are held several times during the school year, bringing children and families together in the schools while helping families take an active role in their children's education.

Energizing Education is now working in seven elementary schools, in Jackson Public, Michigan Center, Northwest and Grass Lake Districts.  Many more schools have requested the program, but we do not have the resources yet to expand.

The key to success YOU! Here's how you can get involved:

Financial support – Your tax-deductible gift provides books and other literacy materials, supports family engagement activities, and drives expansion of EE in Jackson County.  Click on the Giving Grid and make your individual or corporate contribution now.

Volunteer support – Adult reading mentors come from area businesses, nonprofits and the community at large, and are willing to give a little of their time each week to read with a child.  You can learn more about volunteering here:  http://energizingeducationjackson.org/

Today's students are tomorrow's steel workers, bakers, engineers, nurses, inventors, politicians, and taxpayers.  Make an investment in them that really works - give them the future by ensuring they can read today.  Give our companies a productive workforce for tomorrow.  Give yourself the satisfaction of knowing that your contribution, your investment, went to great use.  Click on a square and give NOW.
