"Just three days ago, Yofiel was brought to the refuge after being found on the streets.

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, other than he had mange, was very thin, fleas, anemic, but he was still a very silly and playful puppy.

Last night, I went to change his bedding and found 2 little portions of vomit. He loves to eat like a little pig, so I was not concerned, thinking he ate more than what he should.

Today I was at the hospital for most of the day following my Colonoscopy and only after the puppy nanny said the baby did not touch his food today, I got out of bed still a little droopy from the sedation and went to check on him.

He did not look alert, so I tested him for Parvo and it was negative, then I looked at his ears and gums… my biggest fear was right there in front of me: Leptospirosis.

Immediately, I rushed him to the clinic and the vet put him on the drip with an aggressive treatment for Lepto.

I called the lady that found him and dropped him off to us and she said there are 7 more of his siblings on the streets, probably all infected with the same.

I don’t know if I will see him alive next time I go see him. I am praying for a miracle for my baby."

Leptospirosis in dogs is a bacterial infection that spreads through the bloodstream. Dogs can get leptospirosis from puddles or bodies of water that carry urine from infected wildlife. The bacteria infiltrate a dog’s body by burrowing into their skin.

Canine leptospirosis can be a serious, life-threatening disease.

Some days the pain and hurt is worse than any other days…

I went to bed last night praying and worrying for my little Yofiel. Earlier in the day, the vet said he was doing better, so I had so much hope that maybe…just maybe…

I did not hear from the vet anymore until an hour ago. I was driving, trying to help a paralyzed puppy someone posted of him being on the streets… The vet hit me with the bomb, that I had to park the car to be able to digest what he was saying…my Yofiel died at midnight.

I want to remember him happy from the day he was dropped at the refuge dirty and smelling bad, but those little kisses that he covered my face with, now left a bitter taste in my mouth and I wish so many things!!!!!!!!

Thank you for helping and caring.

    Love,
    Chella
