Subject: In Loving Memory of Bubba
I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your kindness and concern regarding our beloved Bubba. It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that he passed away, as I held him close, whispering words of love while he let me know it was time to go. Cancer truly stinks, and I have struggled to find the strength and words to update everyone until now.
Losing Bubba is a profound loss for me, but I am grateful for all the memories of the love and joy he brought not just to me, but to his foster siblings—both dogs and cats alike. Bubba was a a unique and wonderful light, bringing much love and joy to everyone he met.
He will forever hold a special place in my heart, a place that no one else can replace. I am still occasionally holding the door open for him, expecting him to come trotting in, but the reality is that he’s not here anymore and It’s a very difficult adjustment, I even had to relocate his food dish, putting it out of sight, because i kept filling it with his food not realizing he would be able to come to eat.
The journey of grief is challenging, and I miss him more than words can describe. However, I find comfort in knowing that he was deeply loved and lived a good life here, one vastly different from the one he experienced before coming to Boxer Rescue of VT from Georgia. For that, I am forever grateful.
Thank you again for your kindness and generosity in helping with his medical care, and for your unwavering support during this painful time. Although Bubba may have left this world, his journey with us and the love and joy he radiated will continue to impact my life profoundly as I continue to rescue and love these precious cast-offs and forgotten dogs.
Moving forward without him feels truly difficult, yet I hold onto the hope that he will always be with me in spirit and that one day, I hope to see him again, healthy and healed in heaven. He lived a beautiful life here alongside us, and I am eternally grateful for the love he gave and received. Thank you once more for your generosity in supporting his care; it made a significant difference in his life and mine.

Update
Subject: Update on Bubba - Urgent Need for Financial Support
This is not the update that I was hoping for, in reply to your messages asking about Bubba’s urgent medical emergency it is with a heavy heart I provide the most recent update on Bubba's health situation.
We saw vet Friday for his corneal ulcer and tumor checkup - the news is not good. Unfortunately, the recent aspiration revealed that the tumor is in fact definitely cancerous - but the worse news yet was that during this most recent physical exam of growth the vet now thinks instead of Tumor pressing-on his spine he is almost certain the tumor is originating from Bubba's spine itself, vet also told me for the first time that Bubba has a heart murmur and this in addition to his age would not be good for surgery. He detailed that now with tumor coming out of spine the surgery would require removing part of his spine. This totally stinks.
The vet didn’t sound optimistic about outcome of surgery. He advised that before for the surgery we would need to take Bubba to a spine & cancer specialist where they’d do more MRIs, a full blood panel, have his heart condition assessed, and then weigh all that against the uncertain outcomes of surgery.
These newly discovered higher risks involved are worrying me… Worse news yet is I’m now being told Bubba's tumor is coming from inside his spine itself and that even if all of the recommended tests and precautions were taken the surgery might kill him (age, heart-murmur) and if he survives surgery he most likely will be in excruciating pain and he probably won’t walk again and he’d be incapable of controlling his bodily functions. My short version summary of what the vet said is that in the end, the surgery won’t prolong his life. It’ll just make it suck.
This all stinks and I am heartbroken. Part of me is angry too. I’ve been monitoring this very closely and I’ve brought him to the vet every 1-2 weeks since discovering lump.
Originally vet told me lumps were common in old boxers & nothing to worry about, and to just watch it, and for a few weeks, it stayed the same, BUT then almost overnight that thing blew up HUGE and this last exam after vet had me feel along by the spine where the tumor is and unfortunately, I kind of agree that he’s probably right, that the tumor might actually be coming seems to be originating from within his spine itself, which means in surgery part of his spine would have to be taken out and this is NOT something my vet would do, he said only a specialist might opt to do the surgery and only after spending thousands of dollars more, first on more MRIs, bloodwork, cardiac assessment, and God knows what else.
I am in and out of a fugue state.. I only want the best for this boy. Additionally the Vet & I talked about trying experimental alternative to surgery ie: ivermectin, steroids and fenbendazole…
The prospect of this poor sweet boxer boy becoming crippled and helpless just to get rid of a tumor doesn’t really sound great to me, especially when the vet said it won’t really prolong his life, and that with discovery of heart murmur the anesthesia might kill him. Seems to me like surgery would totally ruin his quality of life and I’m leaning towards the ivermectin, steroids and fenbendazole route.
This unexpected revelation has caused me heartbreak and anxiety as I love this old boy dearly & this all has put the rescue in a very difficult situation. Bubba is in urgent need of your most sincere prayers and generous donations to enable us to help get him through this with the best possible outcome.
Our fundraiser is currently at 70%, and additionally we need almost $2000 to cover previous vet bills. I think the full blood panel for him is a good idea & with this new info I’m heavily leaning towards experimental non-surgical option even if it is only a chance at least it won’t immediately kill, cripple and or incapacitate him.
It’s my hope that whatever time he has left on this planet he should be able to walk around and enjoy life; which the recent vet update says the surgery would not allow him to do.
Your support and generosity mean the world to us, and we are forever grateful for any financial help you can provide. If you are able to assist in any way, please donate now as your support is essential and greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read more about Bubba and thanks for helping him in this time of greatest need. Please feel free to reach out with encouragement or if you have any other questions.., no matter what Bubba is loved and will be given every sane opportunity for quality of life over quantity.
