A Family's Desperate Plea

Urgent help needed for Batman!

We received an email that shattered our hearts. A desperate plea from a family who has done everything possible to save their beloved dog, Batman. He is young, but his body is giving up, and his family is watching it happen in slow motion.

Batman is critical, he won't eat, he vomits up even water, and lies in despair every day. He lost nearly 30 pounds in just a few months.  His family has spent over $10,000, draining every last resource on hospitalizations, bloodwork, ultrasounds, X-rays, and endless diagnostics. Despite their efforts, the cause of Batman's suffering remains unknown. Four hospitals and every doctor is baffled by his case.

His time is running out. He can't maintain his glucose, his heart rate is erratic, and his last chance at survival is entering inpatient care at a specialty hospital.

Every day has felt like doomsday for this family, but today, we said no more. We knew we had to help.

We have rushed Batman to a critical care hospital for immediate life-saving care, where a fresh team of specialists will pick up where the others left off. This will not be easy, but we believe Batman’s life is worth fighting for, and we cannot spend a second longer debating. We don’t know if he will make it, but we know we will give it everything.

If you believe in what we do and in keeping families whole, even through the darkest moments, donate today to help us save Batman.

NYC Second Chance Rescue

About the Organization

In 2009, NYC Second Chance Rescue began as a small dream, founded on the firm belief that all animals deserve love and care, and that no animal should ever be subjected to abuse, neglect or homelessness. All proceeds go directly to the animals, and to date, we have relied solely on donations from loyal supporters. Our mission is to offer a second chance to those animals less fortunate — those with critical medical, emotional or behavioral issues.

All week, we fought for his life—leaving no stone unturned and sparing no cost. He was only two years old and suffering from one of the most severe cases of IBD we’ve encountered in our 17 years of rescue.

Batman wasn’t just in the hands of our team—he had a devoted family who moved mountains for him. They spent over $10,000 trying to save his life, desperate for more time, more tail wags, more love. We were just there to help carry some of the weight.

Surrounded by board-certified specialists and receiving round-the-clock care, Batman was in the best possible hands. But early this morning, his body simply couldn’t fight any longer.

When the phone rang, we knew. That kind of knowing that doesn’t need words—just silence, and the ache of goodbye. His spirit was finally free from pain.

To everyone who rallied behind him, who believed he was worth saving—thank you. We can’t win them all, but we’re grateful to live in a world where we can at least try. Batman was deeply loved. He was given a chance. He mattered.

    Rest easy, sweet boy.

    With Love,
    NYC Second Chance Rescue
