It’s $5 Friday, and today we’re reaching out to our community with hopeful hearts.
We are still raising funds for spay and neuters and for this little setback:
➡️ We had an emergency vet visit for a 4-week-old kitten on 6/4/26. Mama Retena's had her babies 4-weeks ago. Mama is feral and didn't want anyone to touch her babies. She finally let them see the babies and they discovered that one little black kitten had shown signs of carpel hyperextension.
Dr. Brian took a few radiographs and is seeking consultants from a radiologist.
Little baby is back with its mama and we are now waiting on the next step to take.

In March, the Minnesota Federated Humane Society helped us trap 30 cats in need. Of those, we were only able to take in 3—but what we discovered was heartbreaking. Every female cat was pregnant… and most of these mamas are just 6–8 months old—still babies themselves.
Since then, 4 young mamas have given birth in Minnesota Federated foster homes, and 1 more here at our shelter. Tragically, one mama lost all of her kittens. The rest are growing and will come to our shelter once they’re weaned.
So far, we’re preparing to welcome 11 tiny lives—and counting.
Each of these kittens will need essential care: spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, microchips… the kind of care that gives them a real chance at a healthy future. But it comes at a significant cost.
That’s why we’re asking—if you’re able, could you give $5 today?
Every small act of kindness adds up and helps us give these young mamas and their babies the life they deserve.
Thank you for caring, sharing and donating! 💛
Update: mama Luna had 3 babies and so far only one has made it She is just a kitten herself and is having a hard time being a mama.
Two more cats are preparing for their babies.
5/8/26 Update: Mama Luna and her one baby, Aurora, are the first to come back to us from the MN Federated. Mama and her baby are doing great. Aurora is around 2-weeks-old and is thriving. They send mama and baby to us early as Luna is a very friendly cat and would do better with more socializing here.
5/15- a few feral mamas aren't being very corporative and are keeping their babies close. We don't know a for sure count yet.
mama Luna and bag Aurora are doing excellent. Luna is super sweet and explored out of her room today!
mama Lucy doesn't like not being in a nursing bed but we had to remove her and the babies from it as she wasn't letting the babies move around. They all are adjusting
6/2- the babies of another feral mama were finally able to be looked at. Mama Reneta didn't want anyone to touch her or her babies. She likes men it seems and not women. One of the little black babies leg seems off and we are worried it shows carpel hyperextension. We are having her go to the vet on 6/3 for an exam. The baby kitten is only 4-weeks-old and we want to make sure she is ok.
