Shining Christ's light in Our Classrooms
We pride ourselves on individual attention, solid academics and a welcoming, family atmosphere. Our student to teacher ratio currently stands at 1 teacher for 8 eight students, ensuring our small class sizes allow teachers to meet students where they are and offer specialized instruction as necessary. These relationships result in solid academics for each grade level. We work daily to ensure that our families feel safe and comfortable in our environment and close to God.
We focus on teaching curriculum that adheres to a classical style of instruction (including phonics, teacher led instruction, etc.), and weaving God’s word throughout our days. Our classrooms look at learning through a Christian lens, using time tested methods that promote and stress virtuous living. The students participate in chapel service, praise and worship, prayer, and bible classes all year long. We know, as do many of our local churches, that our students are tomorrow’s faithful church worshipers. As we expand our offerings, we are able to make an even larger impact on our students, our local churches, and our community.
Our Need:
2020 has been an interesting year for schools, healthcare, and our community. However, OCS has risen to the challenge welcoming the largest school numbers since 2013. With more students comes an even greater responsibility to ensure that our teachers have the supplies, technology, and salaries to engage with our students, our facility is safe and secure, and our building is open to all families seeking a Christ centered education, despite their ability to pay tuition. It is important to know that OCS does not receive any state or federal funding. The benefit is that we are allowed to craft our curriculum in a way that we believe is best for our students. However, this also means that we rely solely on student tuition and the generosity of our families, churches, and our community to remain viable. In fact, tuition covers only roughly 69% of our total expenses. Philanthropy and the generosity of our extended families, our churches, and our faithful community allows us to remain open and operational, while offering accessible tuition rates to our families
Our Staff: Sustainability and Retention:
* Increase salaries by an average of $4000 per staff member over the next two full school years.
Our teachers on average make less than half of the starting salary at the local public school. We know that our teachers are driven by their ministry and desire to teach in a Christ-centered environment, and not by their income. However, without the ability to offer benefits, this is truly not a living wage for most families. Long term teacher retention and the ongoing recruitment of trained professionals is paramount to our future success. In the last two years we were able to offer salary increases for the first time in 16 years.
Our Facility: Maintenance and Upkeep:
*Upgrading facility to accommodate increasing enrollment
* New Boiler
* New Entry Doors & Security
Our Families- Tuition Assistance:
* To Start a tuition assistance fund that would support ongoing and unforeseen tuition assistance needs.
We do not believe that a family’s ability to pay should dictate the type of education their child receives. As a result, we want to offer an OCS education to any family who is interested. In order to accomplish this goal, we must build a strong and robust tuition assistance fund to support families today, tomorrow and forever at OCS.
