A Flood of Support Needed

We urgently need your help!

The lives of 19 felines were saved after flash flooding rampaged through Bremer County, Iowa following 12-15" of rain in 30 hours.  These sweet kitties are now in need of new homes as their former home is no longer livable and their owner homeless.  Last Home Animal Rescue volunteers rescued them, but we need help paying their vet bills! They will be completely vetted before being adopted.  Your donation and support will be greatly appreciated!

PLEASE... HELP US, HELP THEM!

When the flash flood inundated homes and rural farm properties between 7/21 and 7/22/17, many people were caught off guard and had to evacuate quickly.  The entire town of Sumner, IA and surrounding area lost electricity for over 24 hours when the power plant was flooded, so sump pumps were of no use... entire basements and first floors of their homes were under water.  Thankfully the rains stopped and the water receded quickly, but the damage to homes was significant, with several foundations crumbling.

When Bremer County Emergency Officials were checking houses, they  found these felines in desperate need of help.  The water had receded from their home, but many of the cats were soaked, scared to death, hiding under wet furniture and behind moved appliances.  When LHAR volunteers received their call, they quickly came to their aid, and working together with local officials, they were able to get them all out. Although frightened, and desperately in need of baths, they appeared friendly ~ and the next day, they were seeking affection from their rescuers!

LHAR depends on adoption fees and donations to care for the animals they take in, which is the hundreds per year.  Donations are greatly needed to help them care for these felines! They have all been spayed/neutered, given FVRCP and Rabies vaccinations, dewormed, given parasite treatments, tested negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV, and Microchipped, which includes a lifetime registration fee.  During their medical exams, it was discovered that several of them were all senior kitties, and many of them had major problems with their teeth/mouths, and will need quite a lot of additional vet care with the dental issues needing attention.  A few of them also had Upper respiratory Issues and Urinary Tract Infections and are being treated.  They will be ready to start their new lives soon - and we desperately need YOUR HELP to get them healthy!

LHAR works very hard to make sure all rescued animals they adopt out are a good match for the family; aside from the usual questions on an application, LHAR also does background checks and home visits on the applicants.

The rescue is operated entirely by volunteers; there are no paid employees.  All donations are tax deductible!  Last Hope Animal Rescue, based in Cedar Rapids, IA, is a No-Kill rescue organization licensed by the State of Iowa.  For more information on LHAR, please check out their website at www.adopthope,org.  Donation checks can also be mailed to 1823 16th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA  52404; please note the donation is for the FLOOD OF SUPPORT Campaign.
